How I create a QR code for a Google review link
A practical Google review QR workflow: get the official review link, generate the QR code, print it cleanly, and avoid review-gating or incentives.

When I create a QR code for a Google review, I start with Google's review request link. In this setup, the QR code is just the carrier, and the destination is the part that has to be correct.
I open the Business Profile, copy the review link from Google's review request flow, paste that link into a QR generator, print a proof, and scan it before ordering anything in bulk.
Get the Google review link first
Use the Business Profile flow
Google's current help page says businesses can create a Google link or QR code to request reviews from the Business Profile on a computer browser. I trust that source because the Business Profile interface and labels change over time.
I copy the review link and save it with the campaign files. If the business has multiple locations, each location gets its own review link. I do not reuse one branch's link on another branch's counter sign.
If Google gives me its own QR image, I still usually keep the link. Keeping the link makes the campaign easier to audit, rename, put behind a dynamic campaign, and regenerate at the print size I need.
Generate the QR code
Keep the destination clean
For a small print run, a static QR code is fine. The review link goes directly into the code. For a larger print run, a dynamic QR code is safer because I can change the destination later without reprinting the sign.
I use a short campaign name like google-review-front-counter or google-review-invoice. That makes the file useful six months later, when someone asks which QR code was printed where.
- Use the exact Google review request link for the right location.
- Keep the QR code dark on a light background.
- Leave enough quiet space around the code.
- Export a PNG or SVG at the size the printer needs.
- Print one proof before sending the full batch.
Do not gate the review
Neutral requests are easier to defend
Google says reviews should reflect a genuine experience. Google also says incentives for posting, changing, or removing reviews are prohibited. I keep the printed ask neutral for that reason.
The QR code should not ask happy customers to go to Google while sending unhappy customers to a private form. That is review gating. It may feel useful in the short term, but it turns a simple review request into a filtered review process.
I also avoid copy like Leave us a five-star review. The customer can leave the review they want. The business gets a cleaner workflow and staff do not need to interpret policy at the counter.
Where I put it
Ask at a real customer moment
The best place depends on the business. A restaurant might use a receipt footer or table card. A plumber might use the invoice email. A clinic might use a small checkout counter sign. The QR code should appear where the customer already expects a follow-up.
I avoid giant posters for review requests. They are easy to ignore and they make the ask feel heavier than it is. A small code with plain wording usually works better.
Test the final proof
The scan has to reach the review form
I test the printed proof from the distance a customer will use. For receipts, that means the real receipt printer. For counter cards, that means the real card stock, finish, and lighting.
Then I test the destination. The scan should open the intended Google review flow for the right business location. If the wrong branch appears, the wrong link was used. Fix that before printing.
After printing, I keep the review link, generated QR file, print date, and placement notes together. Nothing fancy. It saves a lot of guessing when the business updates signage later.
